Application of Image Media to Improve the Initial Reading Ability of Grade I Students in SDN 17 Tanjung Lago

Many first-grade elementary school students cannot read simple readings fluently, have trouble distinguishing letters, and have difficulty reading consonants. This study aims to describe the use of image media in increasing reading initiation in grade I students at SDN 17 Tanjung Lago. This type of research is classroom action research (PTK). The findings show that the use of image media can improve students' initial reading skills. The use of image media can improve students' reading ability. Image media as a bridge to remind children can help improve reading skills. The use of image media can increase students' reading motivation. From the results of the first cycle retelling, it can be seen that the percentage of students' initial reading is 79% in the sufficient category, and there is an increase in the second cycle where the initial reading results use picture media with a percentage value of 89% and the good category. Based on these learning outcomes, it can be said that there is an increase in the use of image media to improve reading skills in Indonesian Language Category I learning.
